Note: There can be more than one preserving method for juice or a soft drink, however I’m sharing with you what I found useful for me so that it preserves the taste and flavor of the juice and preserves it for as long as possible.
on the other hand, you can still canning juices by boiling however I found the below methods is the easiest & give amazing results.
Group 1 : Juices.
The best preserving method for this group is freezing
Examples:
- Orange juice
- Apple juice
- Grape juice
- carrot juice
- Strawberry juice
Steps for preserving by freezing for a group of soft drinks and juices
1: Preparing the ingredients
Before starting the canning process, prepare the necessary ingredients. Choose fresh, ripe fruits for the best taste and nutritional benefits. In the case of orange juice, juice the oranges by hand or with a juicer. For apple juice, grape juice, and strawberry juice, wash the ingredients and cut them into small pieces before juicing. For carrot juice, peel the carrots and chop them into small pieces.
2: Preserving.
Use clean, well-sealed glass bottles for juicy refreshments. You can also use freezable plastic cups or freezer bags.
Pack smoothie treats into bottles or glasses, leaving a little room at the top for expansion while freezing.
Close bottles or cups tightly with airtight caps. If you are using freezer bags, remove the air from inside the bag before sealing it.
It’s best to put the canning date on bottles or cups to see shelf life and keep track of order.
Place packaged smoothie treats in the refrigerator for a cooling period before freezing. This helps them freeze evenly and preserves their fresh flavour.
3: Freezing and storage.
Keep bottles or cups in the freezer even and orderly. It is best placed in the highest part of the freezer where the cold is more stable.
Leave the smoothie treats in the freezer for 8 to 24 hours, until completely frozen. Some refreshments may take longer depending on the thickness of the juice and the type of fruit used.
After fully freezing, you can transfer bottles or cups to freezer bags to save space in the freezer (if you are planning to use them in a short time)
Don’t forget to label the bags with the type of smoothie and the date it was packaged.
4: Prepare and enjoy.
When you want to eat the smoothie, transfer it from the freezer to the refrigerator for a while to allow it to thaw slightly.
After thawing, serve the smoothie in a glass or bottle, and you can add crushed ice or sliced fruit as an additional garnish.
Group 2: Soft drinks:
Example:
- Homemade cola
- Lemonade
- Other soft drinks made with fruit or natural flavors.
The best way to preserve these drinks is by cooling (freezing or any other methods will affect the taste )
