Marshmallow is a favorite dessert for all family members. Children love its taste, as do adults.

Personally, I put it on the cereal plate for breakfast because it gives a very refreshing taste to the dish

My kids eat it almost any time of the day, so I have to have a supply of marshmallows at home all the time.

I use two methods for preserving marshmallows for long periods, namely dehydration or vacuum sealing.

In this post, I will share with you the details of both methods.

How Do You Preserve Marshmallows Long-Term?

In general, you can Preserve marshmallows for a long time by hydration or vacuum sealing.

How Do You Preserve Dehydrated Marshmallows Long-Term?

As we mentioned earlier, one of the best ways to preserve marshmallows for a long time is dehydration in order to do dehydration.

How do I adjust the setting of the electric dehydrator to make the correct dehydration for marshmallows?

In general, you can set the dehydrator to 150 Fahrenheit for 4 to 5 hours, or set the dehydrator to 120 Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 hours.
The two methods work well, Personally, I prefer setting the settings to 120 because it preserves the look and touch of the marshmallow.

Tips for dehydrating marshmallows.

  • Make sure there is enough space between the marshmallows.
  • It is preferable to choose small size marshmallows for easy storage.
  • If you have large marshmallows, cut them into two equal halves
  • When half the dehydration time is up, flip the shelves from bottom to top to ensure even heat distribution (even if the dehydrator has a fan).
  • Allow the marshmallow to cool completely before removing it from the dehydrator.
  • If you live in an area with high humidity, it is recommended to increase the dehydration time for another hour to make sure that the marshmallow is completely dry.

How do you know that the dehydrated marshmallow is ready?

Unlike most food that is dried with a dehydrator, marshmallow does not get smaller in size. The correct way to know that the marshmallow is ready is to take one marshmallow and crush it if it breaks. And becoming crunchy means it’s ready.

Note: The marshmallow must be completely cooled before checking it.

How to prepare the dehydrated marshmallow for long-term storage?

As a general rule, the air must be completely emptied from the jars or bags in which the marshmallow will be stored in order to ensure proper storage of it.

Tips for preserving dehydrated marshmallows.

Usually, I store marshmallows in jars because it helps to store a large amount and also helps not to break the marshmallows, unlike the vacuum sealing bag.

Now here are some tips that will help you preserve your dehydrated marshmallow correctly.

  • Make sure the jar is dry and clean
  • Sterilize the LED of the jar well.
  • Wipe the top of the jar with a cloth dampened with vinegar, then dry it with a dry cloth to make sure there are no marshmallows left.
  • Leave an appropriate empty space at the top of the jar
  • Put today’s date on the LED

How to Vacuum seal your marshmallows jars.

in order to vacuum seal your marshmallow jars, you will need Vacuum Sealer Food Storage where you will put it over the led and then use the vacuum sealer hose to take the air from the jars you can get it on Amazon from here

What should I do if my vacuum sealer does not support Jars air extraction?

If your vacuum sealer does not support air intake from the jar ( it does not have a hose) you can get Handheld Vacuum  Sealer from amazon.

I had this one it’s very cheap and works perfectly I think every food preserver lover should have one in his kitchen.

What are the Pros & cons of dehydrating marshmallows for storage?

As I mentioned earlier, I prefer this method for preserving marshmallows, and I have tried it a lot. Therefore, I will share with you the advantages and disadvantages from my point of view so that you can choose the appropriate method for you.

Pros:

Diversity of recipes

One of the reasons I prefer drying marshmallows is the multiplicity of recipes in which marshmallows can be used. For example, it can be placed on breakfast cereals or ground and placed on the cake or on most chocolate drinks.

Give it as a gift:

When giving dried marshmallows as a gift to friends or relatives, they remain almost the same size and shape, and their shape is valuable and wonderful, unlike the method that we will explain later, so I feel that it is more suitable for giving as a gift.

Cons:

The only drawback in my opinion to this method is the length of the drying period, which can reach 10 hours, in addition to some time to cool down, which means that in total, this method will take 14 hours to complete the entire project.

How long do dehydrated marshmallows last?

As a general rule, the dehydrated marshmallow can last for a year if the correct steps are followed in its preservation.

How Do You Preserve Marshmallows Long-Term by vacuum sealing?

The second way to preserve marshmallows for a long time is by using vacuum syringing directly without drying, and this method does not differ from the previous method except that we do not use a dehydrator.

All you have to do is put the marshmallow in the jar and then use the vacuum sealing to pull the air out of it.

How long does the vacuum seal marshmallow last?

As a general rule, the vacuum-sealed marshmallow can last up to one year.

What are the Pros & Cons of the vacuum-sealed marshmallow?

Pros.

Preparation speed:

Unlike the dehydration method, this method is the fastest at all, as it only takes a few minutes and the marshmallow is ready to be stored.

Cons:

shape change:

One of the disadvantages of this method is that the shape of the marshmallow changes when the jar is opened after the air is withdrawn from it. What happens is that the marshmallow sticks to each other and changes their shape.
